Howdy y’all,
Life grinds the soul—at least under our current1 conditions. The colonizer manufactures wars every day and unleashes violence upon the people across the world and the planet. Profit maximization is nothing more than the scorched earth path that forfeits our interconnected futures.
We are all hurting. I extend my heart and spirit to you. Money is a form of energy, dominant in the global economic society we exist in. Imagination another, our capacity to harness it under threat by thought authoritarians. But community is the highest power, organic in nature, transcending centuries of oppression. Radical love and mutual care are how we summon our divine strength that breathes within each of us.
While we toil to survive as the fading powers-that-be struggle to cling to dominance, we must continue to create art, tell our vast stories, exchange diverse sets of knowledge, communicate with and build culture, acknowledge and respect our differences (not violent acts, manners, or speech of hate, intolerance, or superiority), and recognize that, to preserve our shared destinies and collective existence, we must heal, learn and un-learn, and cooperate to forge paths to liberation for us all.
I’ve been working hard at the craft at writing. There is a high that comes with tapping into the magic of language, shifting words, and casting spells of stories and poetry. The black-out poems of rejection letters I’ve seen on my feed inspired me to try it out. It was such a grounding, healing, and playful experience, and I recommend it to fellow writers, especially those who might feel sensitive.
For me, I had to slow down, process, and study the words, even if it felt uncomfortable. That only meant I could notice the sensations, identify its locations and feelings, and getting to the root of it. Then, I could play around, scribble with permanent marker as a stim, and even find ways to play with colors, images, and text, even with layout and design. This, I imagine, is what the magician energy must feel like. That’s what us queer artists are, aren’t we—magic?
I wish rest, healing, and connection unto you and your loved ones, in whatever ways desired and needed.
